The Round Lake Community Band was formed by Ms. Barbara Buehlman in 1969, composed of adults and high school students in and around the Round Lake area. Ms. Buehlman turned over the directorship to her assistant, Mr. Jim Barkow, in 1970 until Ms. Joyce Rossdeutcher assumed the director position in 1977. The band was in existence until 1985 when it was disband. The Round Lake Community Band was regrouped by Mr. Jim Jordan, as a program of the Round Lake Area Park District, in 1995 under the direction of Mr. Mike Dawson. The following year, Mr. Dawson had the opportunity to teach in Texas and handed his directorship over to Mr. Mike Celmer. As Mr. Celmer's work and family life demanded more of his time, he turned the reins over to Mr. Chester (Chet) Shatonus who led us for one year. Mr. Steve Stenzel 2004 took over when Mr. Shatonus' work responsibilities were expanded. Under Mr. Stenzel, the band started to grow again and worked on playing more challenging pieces. After a year, his health and work issues required him to step down. Mr. Trey Johnson took over leading the group in 2004 while he was stationed at Great Lakes. Under Mr. Johnson's leadership, the band's overall sound soon improved. Mr. Chris Teichler took over in 2007 when Mr. Johnson was deployed overseas and introduced more difficult pieces for us to perform. The next year, Mr. Johnson was released from the Navy and returned as our director. Next, we brought in Ms. Jennifer Crosby from 2010-2015. With Ms. Crosby's initiative, the band once again took on more difficult music and worked on our intonation. Due to family commitments, the band membership started to dwindle. Ms. Crosby's work schedule required her to spend more time in Evanston, where she lives, and Mr. Paul Hefner took over in July of 2015. In the time Mr. Hefner has been the director, the band has increased it's membership and is beginning to work on intonation and overall ensemble sound.
